Pricing your handmade work

Many makers price too low and burn out. A fair price pays for your time and lets you keep making.

  1. Add up materials for one piece, including thread, glue, packing and courier.
  2. Count your hours honestly and pick an hourly rate for your skill (for example ₹150–₹300 an hour).
  3. Price = materials + (hours × hourly rate), then add 20–30% for profit and growth.
  4. Example: ₹200 materials + 3 hours × ₹200 = ₹800. Add 25% = ₹1,000.
  5. Keep a lower-priced small item (₹300–₹600) so first-time buyers can try your work.

Work out the price of one product with the formula above. If it is higher than your current price, raise it on your next new piece.
